DESERT STORM

I have compiled my notes from the Gulf War and cleaned it up for you. I will put it in chronological order and give you complete details of how well your Bionic Ear worked for me.

I used the Bionic Ear to listen while on perimeter guard. I picked a vehicle starting at over 5 miles away. This vehicle was an American 5 ton truck at our battalion headquarters area. I feel the Bionic Ear will help us in the future.

We moved up to the Iraqi border today. We are within 2 miles of the enemy. I used the Bionic Ear tonight at 23:00; I listened to two Iraqi soldiers talking at a border post that is about 3-4 miles away. I reported the talk to our battalion commander who said he would send an interpreter to our position tomorrow.

JANUARY 3, 1991
The battalion interpreter came to my position and listened with the Bionic Ear. He told us he only understood a few words, but it seemed they were arguing about the lack of food and one soldier wanted to go home. This is valuable information when determining the enemies morale. The battalion interpreter wanted to buy my Bionic Ear, I said HELL NO!

The air war begins. This place is busy. I took out the Bionic Ear and could hear a lot of movement in the desert. Vehicles are moving everywhere, the Iraqi's are confused. I have made several reports on the type of vehicles by the sound, trucks and tanks sound a lot different. I can't believe how well this thing works, it makes a 100% difference for our observation and listening posts. I will recommend that the army purchase these for scouts and infantry troops.

My birthday and first across the border patrol. I have let a 5 man patrol across the border to recon a border post. My point man used the Bionic Ear. He strapped it to his M-16. PFC Kellett was able to hear movement in the building. It turned out to being 2 Iraqi soldiers. After careful observation, it was determined these soldiers were alone. The order was given to eliminate the position, it was done.

This desert is busy as hell. Tonight the Bionic Ear earned a special place in our scout platoon. We were observing flares and aerial fire from our position. I could hear a thud, thud, thud sound, but I was not sure of what the heck it was so I used the Bionic Ear. When I listened, this sound was clear to me, it was the sound of a helicopter and it did not sound like a blackhawk, huey, cobra or apachi. This was the sound of a helicopter with a different number of roters. I called in the report and the Commander sent some apachi and cobra helicopters to my position. The Commander asked where it was so I gave the direction from my position using the Bionic Ear. The scout helicopters went forward. This went on for about 15 minutes when finally I could hear it moving to another location. I called this to the Commander, within 2 minutes the scout helicopters found it. It was a Soviet made Iraqi hip helicopter. They were hovering behind some mountains. The enemy helicopter was going to attack our position, but before it could get up it was destroyed by our forces. Blown to bits all over the Iraqi countryside. This was 8 miles from our position. I would not have identified it that far out without the Bionic Ear.

We have moved into the enemies territory and are heading for the Euphrates river valley. Can't use the Bionic Ear, we are moving to fast.

FEBRUARY 26, 1991
We attacked an enemy position. This was heavily fortified and the battle went on sporadically all through the night. I used the Bionic Ear to locate a communications bunker. It was within 100 yards but it was 10 ft under ground. With the Bionic Ear I could pick up radio squelch, then we moved to the direction of sound and cleared the enemy position and silenced their communications.

FEBRUARY 28, 1991
We are told the war is over.

MARCH 3, 1991
Iraqi's make one last stand at Rumalya oil fields. 52 Iraqi tanks and APC's are destroyed. We lost 2 soldiers today and I can't express how bad I feel. Both had wives and children.

I can't tell you how much we appreciated your company for sending us the Bionic Ear. We were the only soldiers I know of who had one, and as you can tell we put it to good use. It made the difference for us on the battlefield and gave us that extra edge to make the difference between winning and loosing. THANK YOU SILVER CREEK (Now ICE) FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Sincerely,
SSG JAMES L. MCCORMICK II
